CABIN LIVING

What are the cabins like?

Cabins are heated with a large window. There are bunks that sleep up to ten students.

How are high school student leaders selected?

Student Leaders for the 2025-2026 school year will be facilitated by the participating elementary/middle school that is participating in ODS and the high school(s) within the school district. If your child attends ODS with other school districts, student leaders may be blended.

Student leader applicant lists will be forwarded to WOODS by the participating elementary/middle school and/or high school. Once applicants complete the required WOODS training, participant lists will be sent back to high schools for final clearance.

During ODS, student leaders are mentored and coached by WOODS staff along with support from classroom teachers.

What are the training requirements for high school student leaders?

MEALS

How are meals served?

We serve meals family style which means that food dishes are put in the center of each table and students pass them around and self serve.

What if my child has a food allergy or specific dietary needs?

If we have any student or staff member with a peanut/tree nut allergy, we go nut free as a group. We arrange food alternatives for vegetarians, vegans, gluten free, dairy free, etc. If your child has a medical condition that prohibits cross contamination, contact WOODS for options. Please list any dietary needs that are medical, cultural, and/or religious on the registration/medical form so that we can prepare for accommodations.

My child is a picky eater. Can I send food?

We have found that our menu allows even the pickiest of eaters to find food that they enjoy. Generally, we don’t allow outside food to be sent so that we can keep all of our students safe from allergens. Additionally, food sent that is not stored properly attracts mice into cabins.

How do I send my child’s medications?

All medications MUST be in the original prescription bottle. Only send the exact quantity of medication that will be given at ODS. Place the prescription bottle in a ziplock bag with your child’s name written on it. Schools will communicate how and when they would like you to check medications into the school for transport. DO NOT pack medications in your child’s luggage.

What if there is an emergency or my child gets hurt?

WOODS medical staff will contact you directly if your child has an illness, injury, or emergency. Please review and fill out the registration/medical form completely so that we can properly treat your child in the even that they require it.
